Subject Description

    General French language appropriate to the outcome outlined below.

Learning Outcomes

  • to take students to a level of at least transactional proficiency (1+ on the ISLPR scale). Students will: be able to express by use of complete sentences their thoughts and opinions on familiar topics and their dreams, desires, wishes, emotions, fears and doubts; be able to read and write fluently simple continuous prose and begin to read more difficult authentic texts as well as literary discourse; become familiar with various aspects of French culture and acquire a basic understanding of the history of French literature from Medieval times to the Renaissance, study some texts from this period and gain familiarity with terms and aspects of literary criticism

Subject Assessment

  • assignments and/or in-class tests and/or end-of-semester examinations: listening (25%); speaking (25%); reading (25%); writing (25%). Completion of weekly homework assignments is a compulsory requirement of the subject
