ED5914 - Individual Researched Action Project

This subject is available to all students who possess a relevant undergraduate degree or diploma. All tasks must be negotiated with the subject coordinator/lecturer or nominated academic staff member.

Subject Description

    In this subject you undertake an individual project that encourages an informed, action-oriented, leadership approach to building social and/or ecological capacity in your chosen setting. You will work with university staff to develop a research informed, action project and identify the resources and support needed to achieve the project's aim. Your project must (a) be sustainability and/or resilience focused; (b) concern an aspect of education, co-operative learning and/or communication; (c) be conceived within a researched perspective of social and/or social - ecological and/or ecological sustainable practice, and (d) involve creative leadership. You will develop knowledge and skills for innovating and managing a unique small-scale action project while gaining insight to effective strategies for fostering sustainability in a professional or community setting. ED5914 is an AQF level 9 subject. You will consolidate your knowledge of socio-ecological systems and processes as you undertake 130 hours of education, co-operative learning and/or communication project work.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate leadership in implementing a sustainability initiative
  • source and demonstrate knowledge of contemporary literature, published resources, networks and programs for taking action for sustainability in a designated setting such as a workplace or community site
  • implement effective strategies for fostering at least one aspect of sustainability in a designated setting based on principles of sustainability in practice established in the contemporary research literature relevant to a chosen area of practice
  • implement a small scale program and/or develop materials and/or undertake a sequence of actions that encourage problem-based, action-oriented education, co-operative learning and/or communication for a particular aspect of social sustainability, social-ecological sustainability and/or ecological sustainability
  • be able to communicate the researched action in various forms and forums

Subject Assessment

  • Invigilated > Tutorial attendance and participation - (10%)
  • Non-Invigilated > Assignments - (10%)
  • Interim Project Report - (20%)
  • Final Project Report - (60%)
