ED2440 - Technologies Across the ECE Curriculum

Subject Description

    This subject will prepare, pre-service teachers (PSTs) to teach technologies positively, including coding and robotics. PSTs will design learning experiences where young learners use ICT effectively and appropriately to access, create and communicate information and ideas, solve problems and work collaboratively. In the process, PSTs will demonstrate a sound understanding of the content and processes of both subjects of the Australian Curriculum: Technologies and the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT. Additionally, PSTs will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of research into how students learn and the implications for teaching. These topics underpin learning as articulated in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), The Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG), My Time, Our Place: Framework for School Age Care in Australia, The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA), The National Quality Framework (NQS) and The Australian Curriculum.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the Key Ideas in the Australian Curriculum: Technologies learning area
  • organise technologies curriculum content into an effective learning and teaching sequence
  • demonstrate teaching strategies for using ICT to expand curriculum learning opportunities that are responsive to the learning strengths and needs of students; from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • demonstrate the selection and use of relevant teaching strategies to develop knowledge, skills, problem solving and critical and creative
  • demonstrate a broad range of teacher knowledge, competencies and dispositions that address effective teaching of technologies with an emphasis on the priority areas of Indigenous education, education for sustainability, rural and regional education in and for the tropics
