Subject Description

This subject is an introduction to teaching young children from birth to year 3 through the ARTS, which comprises of five (5) subjects - Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Arts. It will focus on developing Arts knowledge, understanding and skills, through Making, and Responding to authentic arts practice, in Early Childhood settings. Students will have opportunities to implement techniques, skills and processes to explore creative practice and to make artworks. As artists and audiences, students will also respond to, analyse and interpret the artworks they experience in the five Arts subjects. They will develop resources for classroom implementation, and knowledge to extend the influence of arts throughout schools and their communities. The subject will be based on the Early Years Learning Framework, the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline and the Australian Curriculum: The Arts Foundation to Year 10, which acknowledge the essential role of the arts for creative development. Consequently, this subject aims to facilitate the emergence of the artist within each participant and nurture self-confidence and positive identity as an expressive artist and teacher.
