Subject Description

    The primary goal of this subject is to provide pre-service teachers with an introduction to the Australian Curriculum Technologies subjects (Design and Technologies and Digital Technologies); ICTs (Information Communication Technology) as a general capability. Students will develop and demonstrate an introductory understanding of the content and processes of technologies education including 'thinking in technologies' (design, systems and computational thinking), coding and robotics. Students will investigate and develop strategies for the safe and ethical use of ICTs in learning and teaching. Students will examine online and digital learning theory and pedagogies through introductory planning experiences that provide primary students with authentic opportunities to create learning solutions.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the key ideas in the Australian Curriculum: Technologies learning area and ICT capacity
  • reflect on how play and design thinking supports children to use their imagination and creativity to create design solutions
  • demonstrate understanding of the content and processes of technologies education including 'thinking in technologies' (design, systems and computational thinking) and how ICT capability is safely and ethically used in learning and teaching, with an emphasis on Indigenous education, education for sustainability, rural and regional education in and for the tropics
  • examine online and digital learning theory and pedagogies to inform and design experiences that provide primary students with authentic opportunities to create safe and ethical learning solutions
  • demonstrate an understanding of the Australian Curriculum: Technologies learning areas, two distinct but related subjects: Design and Technologies and Digital Technologies

  • Presentation - Curriculum Planning - designing learning experiences for primary students - (50%)
