Subject Description

    This subject is specifically designed for students who plan to do research in the areas of applied economics and / or applied finance. Students will explore a range of current research areas in economics and finance and commonly used methodologies within those areas. As such the subject will provide students with a range of current methodologies, which they may consider using in their research.

Learning Outcomes

  • critically appraise the data (information) to which researchers must have access, in order to operationalise different models (or theoretical frameworks)
  • demonstrate advanced and integrated knowledge of the statistical and econometric problems likely involved in operationalising different models (or theoretical frameworks)
  • critically evaluate and compare the ability of different models, theoretical frameworks, statistical and econometric techniques to generate information that is useful for specific policy/management problems

Subject Assessment

  • Invigilated > Other exams - (60%)
  • Invigilated > Presentations - (15%)
  • Non-Invigilated > Assignments - (25%)
