Subject Description

    Topics include details of the architecture, logical operation security and performance characteristics of layers 2, 3 and 4 of the internet. Students are expected to investigate and prepare a report on some aspect of current developments in internet design research.

Learning Outcomes

  • knowledge of the architectural principles and performance characteristics of layers 2, 3 and 4
  • analyse security issues and exploits at layers 2, 3 and 4
  • characterise performance problems at layer 4
  • understand implications for ICT of proposed revisions and extensions of internet architecture

Subject Assessment

  • Invigilated > End of semester exam - (50%)
  • Invigilated > Quizzes or tests - (10%)
  • Literature review presentation - (15%)
  • Non-Invigilated > Assignments - (25%)
