Subject Description

    This subject addresses project management from a management perspective. The subject deals with the basic nature of managing projects, the advantages and disadvantages of project management, and covers the problems of selecting projects, initiating them, operating and controlling them. The subject discusses the demands made on project managers and the nature of managers' interaction with stakeholders and the ethical issues faced by project managers. Further, the subject covers the issues associated with planning a project utilising project software tools and terminating a project.

Learning Outcomes

  • appraise and describe the key concepts, processes and techniques of project management in solving real world problems
  • analyse the influence of PMBOK and use relevant project management tools and software applications to an identified project scenario
  • critically examine the benefits and limitations of implementing project management theories in business

Subject Assessment

  • Invigilated > End of semester exam - (40%)
  • Non-Invigilated > Assignments - (40%)
  • One Page Project Overview (OPPPO) - 10%; Presentation - 10% - (20%)
