Subject Description

    This subject introduces students to a range of transferable skills commonly sought by business employers with a particular focus on communication and teamwork skills. The subject's objective is to provide students with a grounding in a variety of skill areas that will see them being better equipped for success as both business students and business professionals in the future. Students undertaking this subject will engage with learning content that falls within the broad topic related areas of interpersonal communication, developing teamwork skills, preparing and presenting effective evidence backed information, and communicating proficiently across a range of business communication genres.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate effective interpersonal, written, oral and digital communication skills to diverse audiences, independently and in collaboration with others
  • examine and apply theories and practices in effective communication and decision making in a business context
  • identify and reflect on core skills needed to be an effective business professional

Subject Assessment

  • Invigilated > End of semester exam - (40%)
  • Non-Invigilated > Assignments - (30%)
  • Online Tests (3 x 10%) - (30%)

Special Assessment Requirements

Tutorial attendance is mandatory in this subject. A student who fails to attend at least 70% must meet with the Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching and provide evidence as to why he or she should be permitted to sit the final exam or submit the final assessment task.
