This subject provides an advanced understanding of motor learning and control principles. Emphasis is given to the neuroscience of motor control in theory and practical scientific laboratory workshops and also the means by which neuromuscular considerations influence changes to the acquisition of movement skills. Students will utilise the principles of motor learning and control for the further investigation of neuroscientific mechanisms and practical assessment of skilled performance utilising techniques such as brain-computer interface and electroencephalography (EEG). The scientific understanding, design and measurement of skill acquistion programming will therefore be facilitated.
Learning Outcomes
- to understand the neural, physiological and cognitive bases for controlling movement;
- the understand the neuroscience of motor changes that occurs in sport, exercise and clinical contexts;
- to apply knowledge of neuroscientific factors pertintent to motor control and learning principles to the assessment and organisation of movement skill acquisition situations in a laboratory setting for sport and exercise science.
