Enrolment is restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Speech Pathology, Speech Pathology IHCAP Program and the Bachelor of Speech Pathology Honours Programs.
This subject introduces students to clients with complex communication needs and diverse personal circumstances that may impact on their management. Students will demonstrate increasing awareness of professional issues such as ethics of care and organisational structures. The ICF will be used explicitly in the modelling of clinical reasoning skills and, on completion of the subject, students will be expected to be proficient in explicitly verbalising their clinical reasoning for new complex cases.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate knowledge of the health conditions, impairments, activity limitations and participation restrictions of new complex cases;
- demonstrate competency in clinical reasoning for clients with complex communication needs.

Assessment: | presentations (20%); viva (50%); assignments (30%); hurdle - provide clinical education for second year screening clinic (%). |
Special Assessment Requirements: | Students must achieve a minimum of 50% for all individual assessment items and achieve at least 50% overall on order to pass the subject. Students are required to attend and actively participate in at least 80% of all scheduled classes. |
