Applicants must have completed at least a Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Pathology at an Australian University or hold an equivalent international entry level qualification in one of these professions.
This subject will introduce students to the practice of assistive technology provision using several inter-professional models/frameworks. Students will gain skills in product evaluation, as well as learning how to match a persons' multi-faceted needs with available technology in order to facilitate personal autonomy and participation in wider society.
Learning Outcomes
- critically evaluate the various assistive technology provision models/frameworks and in particular the roles of the various other health professionals and services involved;
- critically examine the factors that are known to influence assistive technology uptake by clients;
- critically evaluate an assistive technology item regarding its design, accessibility and usability for a specified client;
- critically analyse the personal, technology and environmental factors relevant to the successful acquisition and use of technology for a specified client;
- create appropriate assistive technology recommendations (including training, service delivery and on-going support) using a selected provision model/framework for a particular client.
Assumed Knowledge: | To enrol in this subject students will require the knowledge and skills commensurate with completion of an undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or Speech Pathology. |
