Enrolment in this subject is restricted to students enrolled in Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Physiotherapy IHCAP Program and the Bachelor of Physiotherapy Honours Program.
The subject will present an overview of the history of the physiotherapy profession along with issues relating to evidence-based practice. Research and literature search skills will be developed. Students will gain foundation knowledge and skills in the application of selected physiotherapy assessment and treatment techniques. These include massage, exercise prescription and joint examination.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate safety and competence in the application of selected physiotherapy assessment and treatment techniques;
- ability to evaluate the evidence regarding physiotherapy assessment and treatment techniques;
- explain the physiological rationale for the application of selected physiotherapy treatment techniques;
- demonstrate the ability to analyse various movement patterns on the basis of anatomical knowledge, musculoskeletal analysis and related biomechanical principles.

Assessment: | end of semester exam (55%); other exams (30%); assignments (15%). |
Special Assessment Requirements: | Students will be required to achieve a pass grade in the practical and written examinations in order to pass the subject. Students will also be required to complete ePortfolio items as described in the subject outline in order to pass this subject. No marks are allotted to the ePortfolio items. |
