The subject prepares students for professional practice in an interdisciplinary clinical setting. Students will develop an understanding of role delineation, scope of practice and clinical governance. Introduction to service planning and management in a range of settings is explored. Principles of continuous quality improvement including consumer involvement in service design and review will be covered. Students undertake supervised/mentored clinical practice in a selected clinical setting to develop their diabetes educator knowledge and skills.
Learning Outcomes
- plan, implement and evaluate diabetes services and outcomes within the community;
- demonstrate and critically reflect on professional entry level competencies, as a novice diabetes educator;
- explore and critically evaluate evidence-based information translating research into practice;
- actively participate in multidisciplinary team collaboration to facilitate safe and effective client centred health outcomes within a clearly defined scope of practice.
