This subject builds student knowledge of physiological and pathophysiological processes to meet the needs of women requiring complex care due to complications of pregnancy or pre-existing conditions. Students will examine the assessment, planning and evaluation of midwifery care that meets the needs of women within a multi-discipline team.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate knowledge of pathophysiological processes that may impact on the pregnancy, birth and postnatal continuum;
- describe the role of the midwife in promoting woman centred care when complex collaborative care is required;
- appraise the use of available health technology to support midwifery care in a complex care environment;
- evaluate evidence based practice in the provision of care for women with complex needs.

Assessment: | end of semester exam (50%); essays (30%); assignments (20%); recruit 2x cces (%). |
Special Assessment Requirements: | Examinations may be scheduled outside regular university examination period - refer to NM year planner. Submit all items of assessment; Achieve a cumulative score of 50% or more for the subject; Continuity of Care Experiences - students recruit two CCE women. |
