This subject introduces the student to the key legal and ethical obligations of Nurses and Midwives.

Learning Outcomes

• demonstrate knowledge of the main features of the ethical traditions influencing nursing and midwifery;
• critically evaluate clinical practice with reference to ethical principles;
• identify the main provisions of codes of ethics that govern the practice of nursing and midwifery in Australia;
• outline the Australian legal system and the role of each part;
• demonstrate knowledge of the law as it applies to nursing and midwifery in Australia in general, and Queensland in particular.
