Transition to Nursing Studies will develop and explore a broad range of concepts and skills important for international students' successful transition into studies relating to nursing practice in Australia. The subject will introduce the vocabulary and relevant skills in managing time, reading and taking notes and fundamentals in academic research and integrity. It will develop students' skills in independent learning, cooperative learning techniques and working in groups. The subject will also begin to develop the students English language across the four domains of listening, reading, speaking and writing. Finally, students will be exposed to select nursing concepts such as infection control and select nursing psycho-motor skills in a simulated environment as an introduction to the role of the nurse and to allow students to apply subject knowledge in real world situations.
Learning Outcomes
- Develop confidence and skills in speaking and pronunciation, reading, writing and listening;
- Apply time management and planning skills in independent and group contexts;
- Obtain and synthesise information from various sources using appropriate citation and referencing techniques;
- Apply theory to a nursing practice context in a simulated environment;
- Demonstrate essential academic skills for success in the higher education environment.
