Telling stories with images is an age-old practice because visual stories are a powerfully direct way of conveying information, ideas and culture. Historically, much of art has been narrative, that is, depicted stories from myth, legend, religion, history or literature. Today this trend continues in news, documentary, advertising, and exhibited works. Narrative perspectives of the artist, the audience and the visual form itself will be examined to aid your understanding of the visual culture around you and your role as a maker in its creation. How do images, objects, spaces and exhibitions 'tell stories' with or without accompanying words? Students are encouraged to develop their ideas through sourcing, processing and displaying of images in narrative contexts.
