Within the traditions of art criticism, this subject deconstructs photographic works for the purpose of evaluating the structural elements within an image including context, meaning and design. This subject will allow students to develop and articulate thoughtful criticism of photographic images. It is set around criticism activities such as; describing, interpreting, evaluating and theorising. This subject is available to any student using visual forms of communication within disciplines including; creative arts, professional photography, science, journalism and other disciplines requiring the understanding of how images work and function.
Learning Outcomes
- critically analyse photomedia artefacts;
- articulate thoughtful criticism of photomedia artefacts;
- produce a body of photographic work that incorporates concepts associated with photographic criticism theory and practice;
- develop skills in self directed-learning effectively.
