This subject introduces students to the principles of digital photography. As a foundation subject, students will study two key elements within digital photography. The first foundation element involves the function and operation of modern digital cameras including; exposure determination, lenses, focus, f/stops, shutter speeds and controlling image concepts such as depth of field and subject movement. The second foundation element examines the creative and expressive qualities of photography including composition principles such as; line and shape, form, contrast, balance, colour and more. At the successful completion of this subject, the student will be able to operate a digital camera and develop creative skills for composing images with graphic impact.
Learning Outcomes
- create a folio of original images;
- demonstrate the ability to operate digital capture devices such as DSLR;
- apply appropriate software for lens-based image processing;
- demonstrate an understanding of composition and colour usage in lens-based products;
- develop skills in self directed-learning effectively.
