This subject introduces the basic elements of graphic design and the use of digital media design tools. As a foundation subject, students will study the basic composition principles such as form, contrast, balance, colour and typography. Students will apply creative thinking and develop the ability to use digital software as creative design tools. Students will investigate contemporary design practices and be able to develop practical skills for effective visual communication for print and screen formats.
Learning Outcomes
- integrate and apply a coherent body of theoretical and technical knowledge, including underlying concepts and principles of graphic design;
- convey creative ideas clearly and coherently through the use of appropriate language of visual communication;
- critically appraise and critique design projects for their aesthetic and functional effectiveness;
- generate creative solutions to design problems by applying knowledge and skills using contemporary digital media design tools.
