This module has been developed specifically for allied health professionals in the following professions; Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Speech Pathology.
This module explores child development within the domains of physical, cognitive, psychosocial and communicative development. Participants will be guided to review current child services in their local area, identify child assessments, and develop an evidence-based intervention plan for a child client, utilizing effective communication within an interprofessional team.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of the child health conditions potentially encountered in a rural/remote setting and analyse assessment and intervention principles relevant to your profession;
- Assist parents and guardians of children with a health condition in a rural/remote location to understand allied health professional roles during the assessment/diagnostic process;
- Develop an evidence-based, family-centred intervention plan for a child with a specific diagnosis, who lives in a rural/remote setting, which incorporates available services and networks within their local area, and incorporates the practice of another relevant health professional (for example dietetics, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physiotherapy, podiatry, speech pathology, nurse, audiologist etc.).
Prerequisites: | Participants are responsible for ensuring they are practicing in accordance with the regulatory instruments of their specific allied health profession, within their own personal scope of practice and experience level and in accordance with the policies of their employer. This module requires access to an experienced paediatric therapist who can act as a mentor and supervise assessment tasks. Supervision can take place in person or via video link. |
