This module has been developed specifically for allied health professionals in the following professions: Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Speech Pathology.
This module explores neurological conditions as well as assessment and intervention strategies within the rural and remote practice context. Participants will be guided to review a neurological assessment specific to their discipline. Additionally, participants will develop an Intervention Plan for a rural/remote based client living with a neurological condition. This module has been developed specifically for allied health professionals in the following professions: Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Speech Pathology. Participants are responsible for ensuring they are practicing in accordance with the regulatory instruments of their specific allied health profession, within their own personal scope of practice or practice or experience level and in accordance with the policies of their employer. This module requires access to a patient or consumer population with neurological conditions, so as to demonstrate achievement of module outcomes in the appropriate clinical context.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of neurological conditions potentially encountered in a rural/remote setting, as well as the neuro- specific assessment and intervention principles relevant to your profession;
- Demonstrate knowledge about the role of other health professionals working with rural/remote based clients living with a neurological condition;
- Develop an interdisciplinary rehabilitation program including 'step down' rehabilitation for a rural/remote based client living with a specific neurological diagnosis.
