This subject covers in detail the microscopic pathology skills required for a laboratory diagnosis of both malignant and non malignant leucocyte disorders. Skills in the laboratory diagnosis of malaria are also taught. This subject with ML5307 completes the professional requirement for a graduate medical laboratory scientist in haematology.
Learning Outcomes
- create descriptive criteria for the identification immature leukocytes;
- describe the blood film features for a diverse range of malignant and non-malignant leukocyte disorders;
- evaluate results of haematological analysis (including morphology, cell counts, molecular and flow cytometry) and link these to the pathophysiology and diagnosis of leukocyte disorders;
- perform malaria blood film diagnosis / interpretation;
- exercise judgment to interpret and comment on data collected during practical/clinical sessions and the interpretation of clinical case studies.
