This subject builds on the principles and concepts regarding the function of the immune system introduced in second year in the subjects MI2011:03 (Microbial Diversity) and MI2021:03 (Microbiology and Immunology). Advanced Immunobiology aims to cover the biological and functional aspects of the immune system and its complex interaction with other physiological systems. It is an integrated subject providing students with an understanding of the evolution of the immune system, immunophysiology, regulation of the immune system, the potential to manipulate the immune system and the role of the immune system in infectious diseases, immunopathology and in the development of tumours.
