This subject (Applied Research Project) affords students an exciting opportunity to combine theoretical knowledge they have gained to date in Master level programs. The subject allows students to apply this knowledge and understanding directly to a work-based problem area using a suite of research methods. This focus is used as a platform from which to produce a substantive piece of applied research-based work, with the potential for students to develop their work into a manuscript that can be submitted for publication in an academic journal. The essential aim of this subject is for students to understand the theoretical concepts in their related discipline areas so as to provide background to a research project and for them to be able to integrate published work/profession-based evidence and data into planning, conducting, and managing research. Secondary data may be used from a current employer with their permission. Alternatively, data may be accessed from any business or community-based source in the public domain. Assessment items include a qualitative and quantitative analysis of provided materials plus the production of an applied research proposal and final report. Students will be required to undertake a project related to the Master level course they are enrolled in.
Learning Outcomes
- utilise theoretical concepts/constructs in development of a research question and research design;
- critically appraise information (literature and data) in defining of research questions and building of the research design;
- apply high level personal skill, autonomy and accountability in research planning, execution, and communication of results in an ethically responsible manner;
