This subject explores contemporary legal issues that arise from developments in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Students will analyse domestic and international law in relation to data privacy, digital transactions and cybercrime. The subject introduces digital forensics from a legal practitioner's perspective and examines best practice in this growing field. The role of Internet intermediaries such as Google, Microsoft and Facebook are examined together with the dynamic discourse applicable to emerging areas of technology law and the Internet jurisdiction puzzle. The subject considers domestic and international materials to evaluate the law's response to technological disruption and society's reliance on ICT.
Learning Outcomes
- describe and analyse topical and emerging technology law issues with emphasis on data privacy, digital transactions and cyber-crime in a domestic and international context;
- critically examine and evaluate best practice digital forensics processes associated with electronic evidence;
- evaluate and critique the role of Internet intermediaries and the international response to Internet jurisdictions;
- apply research, analysis and advanced legal drafting skills.
