In this subject you will develop knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts and processes. You will examine the role and relevance of science in society by exploring relevant and important issues. This will include science and technology, investigative skills and laboratory investigations; and taking position based on evidence. It will also include evaluating the validity of conclusions made by others and reflecting on the factors that influence the development of scientific knowledge. This subject will provide a foundation to the science disciplines of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Earth Science. It will also prepare students for study in the health disciplines.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of foundational concepts and processes integral to the science disciplines of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Earth Science;
- devise and implement investigations using appropriate methods, techniques and scientific and technological equipment; work responsibly and safely in laboratory contexts;
- collect, accurately record, interpret and draw conclusions from primary and secondary data;
- communicate information and ideas using scientific convention and terminology.
