Mathematics is a discipline of science that is important to many fields, including natural science, engineering, medicine, and the social sciences such as economics and psychology. It is important for students seeking a university degree in any of the fields mentioned above to have a good foundation in this subject. This subject is designed to provide students with basic mathematical knowledge and skills that will equip them for their Foundation Program. This subject discusses the concepts of basic arithmetic, simultaneous, linear and quadratic equations and to compute matrix algebra.
Learning Outcomes
- compute HCF, LCM, Prime factorization, indices expression, apply the fundamental knowledge of algebra to compute factorization, substitution and transposition of both linear and non-linear equations;
- solve simultaneous equations, linear equation and quadratic equation;
- compute Matrix Algebra operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and inverse;
- apply the concept learnt to solve practical problems.
