The primary goal of this subject is to develop, to an introduced level, the specialised pedagogical content knowledge for planning, teaching and assessing required by GSTs in the second of two selected teaching areas at the Grade 7 to 10 level. The subject will focus on the Australian Curriculum and C2C (ACARA, 2017, DET 2015b); and develop understanding of appropriate behaviour support and management practices necessary for creating positive and engaging classroom learning environments. Specifically, methods which cater to the diversity of students in a selected class will be examined. Emphasis is placed on developing pedagogical understandings and integrating the General Capabilities (specifically Personal and Social Capability, Ethical Understanding and Intercultural Understanding) required of secondary school teachers in the selected curriculum area, for a diverse student group. GSTs who complete this subject will be able to demonstrate, the knowledge and skills necessary in planning for and managing classrooms, creating a supportive learning environment and differentiating curriculum.
