This subject provides students with knowledge, sequencing, and appropriate integration of foundations of the Christian Church. It focuses on the communal, sacramental, liturgical, ecumenical and social aspects of the Catholic Tradition and their implications for Catholic schooling. The four strands of the Religious Education curriculum: Sacred Texts, Beliefs, Church and Christian Life and the terminology associated with each of the strands will be explored. Students will examine the sources and structure of the core content of Religious Education: Revelation as expressed through Scripture and Tradition, and experienced through creation and human living
Learning Outcomes
- identify and analyse key foundations in the historical development of the Christian Church and Tradition;
- know and make judgments about the theological concepts fundamental to the sacramental and liturgical dimensions and associated with the strands of the Religious Education curriculum;
- identify and generate practical and theological knowledge explanations to major liturgical and pastoral principles, policies and school practices underpinning the celebration of the Catholic Tradition (sacramental and liturgical) in Catholic schools;
- communicate complex knowledge and ideas clearly and coherently to a variety of audiences through high level speaking, reading, writing, listening and advocacy skills.
