This subject addresses the topics of careers and leisure in the broadest sense and includes studies of career education, career guidance, career counselling, along with work and non-work activities and transitions including career interruption, unemployment and retirement. To enable targeted study this subject offers streams in four age points; older adult, younger adult, adolescent, and childhood.
Learning Outcomes
- students must demonstrate advanced and integrated theoretical and technical knowledge, of career theorists, career education, and career development, including intercultural aspects, leisure activities, career interruption, unemployment and retirement;
- students must demonstrate an understanding of contemporary issues related to local, national and global aspects relevant to guidance and counselling and career guidance;
- students must demonstrate the ability to interpret, evaluate, and justify complex ideas and professional judgements to both specialist and non-specialist stakeholders using advanced writing and advocacy skills;
- students must demonstrate sophisticated problem- solving skills in order to develop solutions to a range of career development and guidance and counselling contexts;
- students are expected to demonstrate advanced knowledge of ethical reasoning principles as outlined by the Career Industry Council of Australia Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Counsellors.
