The construction of pedagogical content knowledge in the secondary school is the focus of this subject. Students will become familiar with the Australian Curriculum: Science; examine the essential components of science programs appropriate to secondary schooling; identify and understand the skills, attitudes and scientific concepts that can be developed in a science program; and explore a range of issues that impact on teaching and learning in secondary contexts. This subject will also explore discipline-specific curriculum planning, assessment and teaching strategies up to Year 10.

Learning Outcomes

• develop an understanding of science concepts in the curriculum;
• build a repertoire of learning/teaching strategies in science and technology;
• develop skills in planning and assessing science learning activities for students;
• become familiar with science curriculum requirements and a range of issues that impact on teaching and learning in secondary contexts;
• demonstrate Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at a developed level.

Assumed Knowledge:	This subject has been designed on the assumption that students: can effectively navigate through LearnJCU; are competent at planning at the level of lesson plans; have well developed research skills that will enable them to research topics within science education
