This subject is an introduction to teaching primary school children, through the Arts, which comprises five (5) subjects - Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, Visual Arts. It initiates the development of Arts knowledge, understanding and skills, through making and responding to creative arts theories and practices. New trainee teachers will have opportunities to realize creative techniques, skills and processes, and to explore and develop their own identities as both artistic individuals and professional, agentic arts educators. From the varying perspectives of artists, art critics and audience members, the pre-service teachers will respond to, analyse and interpret the artworks they experience in the five Arts subjects. They will discover and create resources and techniques for use in diverse classrooms, as well as knowledge with which to extend the influence of arts throughout schools and their communities. The subject is informed by the Australian Curriculum: The Arts Foundation to Year 10, which acknowledges the essential role of the arts for creative development. Consequently, this subject aims to facilitate the emergence of the artist within each participant, and nurture one's self confidence and a positive identity as an expressive artist and teacher.
