This subject is designed to build the toolkit of a modern zoologist and ecologist. Methods and skills will span the spectrum from fundamental (field and survey skills and basic taxonomy and identification of key vertebrates, invertebrates and plants) to innovative techniques, including remote sensing technologies involving satellite imagery, drones, sensors, camera traps and environmental forensics.
Learning Outcomes
- identify species of particular importance to the tropics (e.g. dominant, endangered or invasive) using field guides and taxonomic keys;
- critically identify, select and assess appropriate field techniques to generate biodiversity survey data;
- report results of survey data via written and verbal presentations;
- demonstrate ability to use emerging technologies in environmental surveys.
