This subject introduces students to the amazing biodiversity on planet Earth. It provides an introduction to the genesis and evolution of various life forms across earth's history, with an emphasis on the major groups of plants and animals. Primarily, we focus on aspects of their classification, morphology, physiology, behaviour, ecology and evolution. We also investigate the chemical and cellular basis of life that influences the form, function and behaviour of these different life forms.
Learning Outcomes
- use and apply fundamental practical techniques for studying plants and animals;
- apply analytical and problem solving skills to investigate and present research on biology in oral and written modes;
- apply morphological, physiological and behavioural knowledge to whole plant and animal biology across different ecosystems.
Assumed Knowledge: | Students enrolling in this subject should have a good understanding of Chemistry, Mathematics and English to Grade 12 (Queensland) or equivalent. |
