This subject is designed to foster an understanding of the discipline and practice of marketing in a global context. In particular, in this subject, students are encouraged to explore a range of processes, techniques and theoretical frameworks used in the design, development and evaluation of international and global marketing campaigns. The subject covers a range of topics such as brand management, pricing strategies, communicating with a culturally-diverse customer base, designing a channel strategy, selecting a foreign market entry mode, and analysing political-legal, economic, socio-cultural, technological and ecological dimensions of the environment. Furthermore, students are encouraged to explore the complexities, and opportunities, of doing business in the tropics and in remote, peripheral regions, such as the logistical challenges posed by distance and the need to adapt products due to the nature of the tropical climate. This subject highlights the global shift towards green and ethical consumption and formation of corporate social responsibility strategies by global brands.
Learning Outcomes
- examine processes, techniques and theoretical frameworks used in the design, development and evaluation of effective international and global marketing campaigns;
- analyse and apply the principles of international and global marketing, within a context of commitment to sustainable marketing and ethical standards;
- appraise the critical elements in the international marketing environment that have an impact on the ability of organisations to achieve their objectives.
