Bioengineering is usually defined as the exploitation and manipulation of biological resources to deliver commercial and social benefits. This subject is designed to cover the fundamental and advanced aspects of bioengineering with a particular focus in recombinant DNA technology and recombinant protein production in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes with applications in molecular diagnostics, microbial production of therapeutic agents, bioremediation and biocatalysts. The subject will also examine contemporary ethics and patenting issues relevant to bioengineering.
