Bioengineering is usually defined as the exploitation and manipulation of biological resources to deliver commercial and social benefits. This subject is designed to cover the fundamental aspects of bioengineering such as recombinant DNA technology and recombinant protein production in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes with a focus on biomedical applications such as in molecular diagnostics and drug development. The subject will also examine contemporary ethics and patenting issues relevant to bioengineering.
