This subject is designed to provide both biomedical and biological scientists with the foundations of biochemistry including the functional components of living cells and the basic metabolic strategies adopted by living cells for the generation of energy and the synthesis of cellular components.
Learning Outcomes
- Explain and construct the basic pathways of carbohydrate and lipid catabolism and their role in energy production in living cells;
- Demonstrate practical experience in biochemistry techniques;
- Describe the role of enzymes in biochemistry;
- Describe the structure and function of proteins, carbohydrates and lipids found in living organisms;
- Demonstrate adherence to assessment deadlines.
