This subject will provide an overview of marine, brackish and freshwater aquaculture activities in the tropics. It will cover the status and methods of culture and production bottlenecks of the major species cultured in this region. including finfish, crustaceans, macroalgae, molluscs and sea cucumbers
Learning Outcomes
- holistic understanding of aquaculture activities in tropical regions;
- knowledge of the practical aspects of tropical aquaculture;
- understanding of current challenges and bottlenecks across a range of tropical aquaculture industries/species;
- knowledge of the current research approaches directed at tropical aquaculture species;
- familiarity with the key literature in the field of tropical aquaculture;
- ability to make an informed evaluation of potential and opportunity of aquaculture in the tropics;
- demonstrate a strong understanding of practical and theory contexts relating to tropical aquaculture;

| Assumed Knowledge: | Students enrolling in this subject should have an undergraduate degree in a discipline deemed relevant (e.g. marine biology, biology, aquaculture or other deemed appropriate disciplines) or have acquired equivalent knowledge through other study or demonstrable industry experience. A sound understanding of science subjects including basic biology, chemistry, aquaculture and statistics is an advantage |
