A directed reading seminar on the nexus between theory and method. Students are required to undertake intensive reading and discussion of a body of empirical and/or theoretical material and consider this in relation to their own research projects. Ethical issues and dilemmas of ethnographic research will be discussed. Students will be given the opportunity to learn various ethnographic fieldwork techniques through practical exercises and/or a field excursion.
Learning Outcomes
- acquire the skills required to engage in research associated with higher degree research projects;
- demonstrate knowledge of anthropological research methods;
- cultivate a critical understanding of key debates in areas of research ethics, theory and methodology.
