This subject will introduce students to the underlying principles of conducting needs assessments and planning health promotion programs. This will include an introduction to theoretical models that allow problems identified during a needs assessment to be examined in more detail to ensure the development of appropriate responses to health issues. Content will cover all key planning steps including the development of goals and objectives, and consideration of evaluation, budgeting and sustainability.

Learning Outcomes

• Demonstrate a broad understanding of the steps and processes involved in health needs assessments and planning of health promotion programs;
• Examine and critically appraise the key elements of a health promotion program plan to address an identified health issue;
• Build a community profile for an identified community/geographic area;
• Develop a needs assessment plan for an identified target group;
• Design a health promotion program to address a health issue for an identified target group.
