This subject provides students with an overview of the analysis techniques used in health economics. The subject builds upon the theoretical and conceptual basis provided by TM5526 Public Health Economics, and is designed to equip students with the necessary analysis skills to undertake sophisticated economic evaluations in the tropics. The subject will cover generalised linear models, survival analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, and equity analysis. It will also cover different sources of data available to health economists, including administrative data, and provide a critique of current health economic practice. The subject will be taught in SAS.
Learning Outcomes
- apply statistical analysis techniques to health- related datasets, and interpret the results;
- choose the most appropriate evaluation design for different health-related projects;
- identify possible sources of data for different health-related projects, and critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the source.
