Year: | 2018 |
Student Contribution Band: | Band 1 |
Administered by: | College of Healthcare Sciences |
The subject presents empirical approaches to understanding maladaptive mental processes and behaviour, psychosocial disorders, and dysfunctions in all age groups. The primary focus is upon major areas of psychological dysfunction, as well as problems of diagnosis and assessment. Clinical aspects related to symptoms, aetiology, etc. and theories and research findings will be presented from an integrative perspective that emphasizes multi-factorial rather than uni-factorial approaches to understanding psychological disorders. Therapeutic interventions for different disorders will be surveyed, but are not a major focus of the subject. This subject is relevant to the professional practice of psychologists and complements material in the subject PY3104:03 Principles of Counselling.
