Credit points: 03
Year: 2018
Student Contribution Band: Band 2
Subject chain: OT4010 OT4011
Administered by: College of Healthcare Sciences

This is the first part in a two part Honours Research subject chain. Within this subject chain students will work independently (with supervision) in completing a research project relevant to a contemporary occupational therapy theory or practice issue. In enacting their research plan, students will be required to demonstrate a solid understanding of their research methodology as well as strong organisational and planning skills. Students will consolidate their knowledge on their research topic area by undertaking a critical analysis of the literature, culminating in the production of a literature review paper. Students will also collect, collate and analyse research data in order to derive robust research findings. Students will then critically examine their research findings in relation to existing knowledge on their research topic and analyse the relevance of these findings to occupational therapy theory and practice. Following this, students will prepare a written summary of their research project in the form of a research paper suitable for publication in an appropriate academic journal. Students will also deliver an oral presentation summarising their research, following which they will be required to respond to examiners' questions regarding project design, findings and implications.
