OT3001 - Occupational Therapy Independent Study

Available to level 3 and above Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy IHCAP students. Other students enrolled in Occupational Therapy with recognised prior learning as approved by the Head of Occupational Therapy including other health postgraduate students.

This subject aims to consolidate students' skills in evidence based practice, including the ability to formulate answerable clinical questions, develop effective search strategies and critically appraise the research literature. Students will learn how to be critical consumers of the research literature. Additionally they will be introduced to the skills required for knowledge translation (transfer of quality evidence into actual practice).

  • 16 hours - literature searches, literature appraisal
    Assessment:assignments (20%); undertake a critical appraisal of 10-15 articles, surrounding an ot topic using an approved data extraction tool to evaluate the quality of the evidence (40%); develop a knowledge translation policy brief (40%).
    Special Assessment Requirements:Students must attend and participate in 80% of all workshops. Students must pass each assessment piece to pass this subject.
