NS3003 - Pregnancy Continuum: At Risk Events
Credit points: | 03 |
Year: | 2018 |
Student Contribution Band: | Band 1 |
Administered by: | College of Healthcare Sciences |
This subject continues to extend students' knowledge and ability as it builds upon learning commenced in prerequisite subjects. While the previous subject addressed challenges' to a woman's pregnancy, this subject examines situations in which a pre-existing health condition is present or a condition develops during the pregnancy continuum, requiring ongoing management to reduce risk to the maternal and/or foetal wellbeing. Consistent with the curriculum philosophy, this subject is structured around a framework of 'genuine caring' (Berg 2005) and the use of Page's five steps for midwifery practice. Content is aimed at further developing students' knowledge regarding the boundaries of midwifery practice and referral. Students are provided a safe simulated environment and supported clinical placement to prepare for, recognise and address the onset of emergent pathological conditions. Students continue to recruit and attend pregnant women willing to participate in the 'Continuity of Care' experience.
Learning Outcomes
