This subject will provide foundation knowledge of molecular and cellular processes in the normal functioning of the human body, plus an understanding of the individual, health systems and the societal influences on human health. These topics are presented in an integrated fashion across four foundation science modules and through introductory clinical skills practice. This subject is only available to students enrolled in the MBBS program.
Learning Outcomes
- describe normal cell and tissue structure, function and the biochemical processes required to sustain life;
- explain tissue organization and function within the human body and the processes of cellular to whole body control, communication and regulation;
- describe the Australian health care system and its components, explain how health is measured and interpret the professional and ethical dimensions of medical practice;
- describe patient-centred care and demonstrate communication skills;
- apply principles of infection control.
