This subject is designed to lay a foundation in the disciplines, which underpin the study of sport and physical activity. It will serve as a major introduction to the historical, sociological, anthropological and cultural foundations of health and physical activity for understanding the individual and social imperatives of sports, games, physical education, leisure activities, and wellbeing. Similarly, it will present an overview of the pedagogical, psychological and biophysical foundations of the area knowledge of which is essential for teachers of Health and Physical Education. Students will apply the theoretical constructs by participating in a variety of applied activities (for example, dance and athletics), with a particular focus on adaptive practices. The foundation offered in this subject will implicitly impact upon the students' initial teaching practice performances.
